Neko Case and The Hunger Games.

By: Britt Harvey

After watching The Hunger Games this weekend I was struck not only by the strong and fierce performance by Jennifer Lawrence, but by the film’s kick ass soundtrack that featured Gaze lady hero Neko Case.

Case is no newbie to the music scene, having released many albums as a sometime member of The New Pornographers and solo artist.

Case often uses dystopian imagery in her music, most notably on her last two albums, ‘Fox Confessor Brings the Flood,’ and ‘Middle Cyclone,’ both of which contain song after song of dark foreboding.

Case’s contribution to The Hunger Games soundtrack therefore seems decidedly apt. The lyrics contain the lines, “I have no introduction I just breathe it in like the air. And there’s nothing to remember. There is nothing to remember. I owe you nothing. That’s all I’ve got for you. And you’ll borrow nothing. That’s what you expect of me. So you send me a lot, out of thin sailors knots. And I fear underneath the weight of your thoughts. My footsteps now, they will echo loudly.”

Chills. Go Katniss.
