Your daily Rufus: “Out of The Game,” I think not.

By: Britt Harvey

There was a time when I harbored the secret hope that Rufus Wainwright, upon meeting me, would forever, (or at least temporarily) renounce men and pledge his undying love for me. This brief flitting delusion subsided long before Rufus donned stockings and sang Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, but I still have a soft spot for Wainwright’s grandiose music and reedy tenor.

His latest album “Out of the Game,” is decidedly more commercial than his other musical efforts, (if anything he does could be called even remotely that) but it still has the intricate melodies, soaring vocals and great lyrics that pepper his more experimental albums. And does that backing band sound familiar? “Out of the Game,” was produced by Mark Ronson and Wainwright is accompanied by none other than the Dap-Kings, who are well-known for backing Sharon Jones as well as the late Amy Winehouse.

The newest single “Out of the Game,” from the album “Out of the Game,” posted below for your ear-feasting pleasure.
